Our Founding
The sisterhood of Gamma Tau Upsilon was founded on February 12, 1978 in Hodgson Hall, Room 8. According to the Sewanee Student Handbook, "Gamma Tau Upsilon, a local sorority, was founded in the spring of 1978 to promote spiritual and intellectual growth among young women. It strives to provide a social outlet for University women and encourages community and charity projects in and around Sewanee." The Founding Mothers adopted navy blue and kelly green as their colors and the white dogwood as the sorority flower.
